Degree in Musical Education from Southern Illinois University.
Music has been my entire life, and I have always enjoyed my role as an instructor. Getting students to the next level, expanding their musical horizons, educating them on the Art of expression and how powerfully music can affect their life, "and" their intellect, and teaching them to enjoy the ride has been a an ongoing part of my musical heritage. Quite simply, I enjoy passing along my expertise to anyone interested in this glorious domain. Research has clearly shown over the years that those embracing the study of music actually do better in any number of different domains in there life - this should never be taken for granted.
I have been a professional for over forty years. I have recorded on over 100 CD's. I am a Solo Artist with three CD's under my name which I composed all the music for. I have written articles on bass techniques, music theory, jazz improvisation, and composition. I was the Editor for the online bass website Bass Musician Magazine for four years in which I wrote dozens of articles and interviewed the top bassists in the world on a monthly basis. The education and musical knowledge I personally received from interviewing these iconic players goes beyond words.
To this day I have not found a Bass Method book that I feel encompasses everything a player needs to learn and experience. I have designed my own teaching format over the years that covers everything from getting a beginner started to teaching music theory, jazz improvisation and composition, if that's where an individual may be headed. Every student is different and has different musical needs and desires, thus, every student needs a program designed to help them achieve their specific goals. This is my forte.
My ability to connect with a student is first and foremost. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
