Bachelor Degree: Dominican University of California
I am a dedicated and passionate musician who loves spreading the knowledge of music to students of all ages. I have been playing guitar for twelve years and got my bachelors degree in music at Dominican University of California. Over these years, I have studied various styles of music such as rock, metal, prog, jazz, blues, and classical. I have harnessed numerous techniques and concepts over the years that I hope to share with all of my students. I have always found a strong connection for music at a young age and I am continuously working on becoming one with music.
I have years of experience when it comes to teaching and performing musical concepts. During my time at Dominican, I became the designated music theory tutor for all music majors and minors. During my time as a tutor, I watched all of my student's grades go up multiple letters. For teaching guitar, I have learned from numerous accomplished teachers ranging in different styles and I have harnessed each of their successful teaching techniques. What sets me apart from most teachers is that I always find ways to make tough concepts/techniques reachable for students to achieve.
For all of my students, I like to blend what they need to know and what they want to know. I find that especially teaching guitar, learning it is very goal oriented. My students and I always come up with their goals during each lesson so they can have something to work up to for each week. Practice does make perfect, so I do strongly encourage practicing at least a couple hours a day. Learning a new instrument(especially for beginners) can be very daunting and dry, so I like to keep practices fun, engaging, and relatable.
I am a very supportive and encouraging teacher who loves helping students reach new achievements. To me, there is no better feeling than seeing the light bulb click for each student as they learn new concepts. It gives me so much joy seeing a student do something they thought they could never do before. I understand that each student is different with different learning curves so I do make each lesson different for every student's needs. Every time I get a new student, I try to find out what their goals are and what their inspirations are so I can teach accordingly.
Jake has made the lessons fun by working towards playing a favourite song - she has learnt a lot in a very short time!
