I'm a passionate and motivated guitar teacher who loves sharing my knowledge of music. I graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a B.A. and Psychology and went in to the education field 7 years ago. I studied Jazz Ensemble with one of the top jazz musicians in Houston and have been playing guitar since I was 11. My curriculum is incremental, and well planned that can take a beginner play through the proper foundational knowledge to help them reach advanced levels and become skilled in improvisation, song writing and performing.
I have experience teaching all ages and levels from 8 years old to advanced and intermediate adult students. We will go through technique building exercises for right and left hand development, chord exercises, music theory, reading music and playing favorite artists. I use methods from the Berkeley School of Music and years of studying with private teachers. I will begin with the essentials of learning guitar, learn how to sit and hold the guitar, tune the guitar and play your first melodies! Learn how to read guitar tablature. learning to play single notes, beginner guitar chords, 4 essential strumming patterns, changing chords etc. After the basics are mastered we will move through playing lead guitar to improvising with C-A-G-E-D theory and playing advanced lead guitar licks.
I feel rewarded when I see my students develop a passion for music. I set goals with each student getting to know their style preferences, musical tastes and acknowledge their progress throughout the learning. My students will learn to reach their goals and become successful performance artists and musicians. With persistence and hard work they will be rewarded in many ways and will feel confident knowing the language of music and be able to perform for any audience. Incremental steps will be taken to reach the long term goals.
