I love all types of music, but especially jazz. I attended Sacramento City college from 2003-2006 majoring in recording studio engineering but with a minor in jazz performance. I moved to NY in 2006 where i regularly played jazz and rock gigs with up and coming young musicians. I had the opportunity of playing on a jazz album, as well as playing for some studio sessions. I love learning all types of music and just having fun playing. I have preen playing the guitar for 15 years. I primarily play jazz, rock, blue grass. I studied classical but only play it occasionally. I also play electric bass.
I began teaching guitar when I was 15. Since then I have taught people of all ages and varying abilities. I help students to learn at their own pace and own style. Not everyone wants to learn to read music right away, so i Taylor my instruction to your personal goals with playing guitar. I encourage my students to practice daily and to play with other people. Most of my teachers showed me the path, I just had to walk down it. I bring the same approach to my instruction. Music is first and foremost fun! I enjoying teaching people of all ages and experience.
For beginning students I usually start with Hal Leonard's beginning guitar. But if they want to just play music, I will als teach them how to read tabs and chord charts. This enables the student to start playing songs right away. As the student progresses I will give them solo music pieces as well, songs and exudes to use for performance. Eventually, the student will progress to scales, soloing, and comping. I keep my students interest as the priority of the lesson. If the student is not having fun then I am not doing my job.
I love to see students learn something and progress as the make music. Therefore, it is my goal that my student progresses at their own pace. I encourage the students to set goals for themselves and help them achieve them. Commendation is given as the student progresses and this encourages the student to dive deeper into his playing. Also, I try to see what the student is interested in, where her it be rock, alternative, blues, classical, or even jazz. I do my best to help thm learn and find their personal voice on the guitar.
