I have two Masters degrees in music and am a conductor as well. I am passionate when performing and when teaching. I prefer teaching singing and I have performed opera and oratorio as well as folk music, Broadway, and a little Pop! My brother is a Country Singer. My daughter is a Soprano atManhattan School of Music. I specialize in ease of sining, acting, beautiful tone, excitement of performance, overcoming nervousness, projection, dynamic variance, voice color control, how to make wise choices in tone.
EXPERIENCE
I love teaching and helping students reach their potential. I have been teaching music for over 40 years. I teach beginning to professional level voice lessons from folk and pop to Broadway and Opera. I also teach beginning level piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and guitar. My students understand the voice and voice production. I am thrilled to pass on a fantastic technique to the serious opera or Broadway singers who have struggled with unfocused and frustrating techniques. I am always thrilled when my students are thrilled with their results.
METHODS USED
Voice methodology is to learn how to make the correct sound on the flow of breath. One must learn how to breathe whether singing loudly or softly in whichever style or genre the student wants to learn. String playing can be hard on the ears when beginning, therefore it is important to develop a good bow technique in order to make the best sound possible. I use the All For Strings method books. Begining piano is fun and I teach out of the book as well as how to learn the beginnings of improvising. I use the Alfred Piano Library books for the children and adult players.
LESSON STYLE
Each student develops at their own pace. To improve quickly, practice is very necessary. To improve slowly, lessons may be what guides your practice time. It is up to the student (and parent). I like to keep the pace moving, but repeat as much as necessary to build a firm foundation. I definitely work with the music that you are interested in and want to perform. I help you to understand how to overcome nervousness and how to feel comfortable performing in front of small or large crowds. The key is knowing how to build a solid and secure technique.
