I worked for Eddie Van Halen for five years in the 1990's in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles, and was instrumental in providing help with development of the Peavey Wolfgang and Wolfgang Special Guitar by providing feedback on the prototypes Eddie was designing at the time. I learned a lot from Eddie and his brother Alex about music and the music industry. (All you have to do is pay attention!) Additionally, I have studied recording studio techniques and production with award-winning Canadian music Producer Allister Bradley. I have played in bands from Hollywood to Toronto and back both as a singer songwriter and guitarist. I bring the Musicians Institute way to the table and get things up and running quickly, and help students get it under their fingers fast and get it right the first time. I'm currently a songwriting/guitarist member of Bristol Kids Band based in Nashville area. I also do session work for film makers, and other artists when called upon. I've been teaching students from my studio for 15 years. I have won awards for songwriting from Beat100 in the UK.
Additionally, I created and host an international syndicated weekly talk radio show, The Celebefex Show™, interviewing Indie Artists, Grammy winners, Sports Celebs, Oscar winners, Actors, Musicians, Entertainment Attorneys, Producers, Former Record Label CEOs, Industry Experts, and more. We have fun.
Music is life, and a gift to the world. Students who study music have higher grades in all other subjects. Their grades go up! Music lifts us up, and gives us enrichment; and washes the dust away from our every day lives. It is the most profound healing force on earth, and is magical. I have been teaching music for over 15 years, and I use a holistic approach so nothing is left out. Students who work hard and apply themselves are the ones who succeed. I believe in giving them every opportunity to grow and learn as quickly as they can. I teach them in a way that allows them to enjoy the learning process, and remember more of what they learn. I love when a student has enthusiasm because they are excited about the future, and I encourage them to do well in every endeavor. I want them to win.
I use the same method that I was taught at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA, covering Music Theory and how it applies to Guitar and Piano and every instrument...Students benefit from private lessons with me. I share what world renowned working professional musicians such as Steve Vai, Carlos Santana, Billy Burnette, Keith Wyatt, Dan Gilbert, Tommy Tedesco, and many others have taught me. I tailor the class to the needs of the students. In fact : "You Are the Instrument, the guitar is just a piece of wood. Without you it does nothing." ~ Howard Roberts.
The good feeling of playing along with friends and taking a solo is within every students' grasp. I will show you the way there. With a solid and straightforward approach to theory as it applies directly to your instrument, you will feel confident and unafraid of any music endeavor. You will learn the basics and much more than you thought possible, retaining 95 percent of what you learn! Music is fun, and songs are the creative expression of what we feel. Combining theory and the freedom to play and sing songs allows us to express ourselves through music. You will be able to do this, and more.
I have known James for 17 years now. Over the years, James has given guidance and counsel to me, and other student musicians of all ages. I highly recommend James to anyone who wants to learn music and a musical instrument. His teaching inspired me to improve. James is a kind and patient teacher, and study with him will benefit anyone with the sincere desire to learn. When I first heard James play his Ovation acoustic guitar, I knew that I wanted to write songs, too. His teaching has shown me the way there! I love what I do, and enjoy music every day.
