2015 - State Championship FMBC
Participated in MPA (FBA)
From a young age, I've been interested in music, and I would often tap around on my grandma's piano, but alas I went toward brass instruments. I started playing trumpet in middle school around the age of 11, and I've been playing trumpet for about 11 years. I played for 3 years in my high school's marching band, winning state championship's one year, and 3rd the other years. I've played in jazz bands, concert bands, and I've participated in MPA. I studied under John Lovell for 3 years, and well known names in high school.
I've tutored a few freshman when I was a senior in high school, and I can say that I have a good understanding of what a trumpet player (or a wind instrument in general), should be practicing just based on my experience and the teacher's I've had. My goal is to emulate the teaching's I've been taught to another person. I've always been someone who likes teaching, and I've been told that I explain things well. I like working with people of all ages, and I personally think you're never too old or too young to learn an instrument!
Within a month, you should be able to play all the notes of the C Major scale. I will be available to answer any questions you might have, and I will make sure that you start out with the correct mouth shape, or "embouchure". This is critical to establish and get right at first, so I will make sure you start playing correctly, with correct hand placements, and such. I can teach beginner level, as well as intermediate techniques, with how to play higher, practicing techniques, and a daily plan to work on .I will provide materials, technical exercises, lip buzzing, lip slurs, and more!
First in a lesson, I will go over what the student already knows, and what they have been practicing, as well as what they would like to practice. The student might not know what there is to practice or learn, so I'll give them materials and the tools to be able to get better with practice. I understand that not everyone will find playing a new instrument natural, and that's okay. Nobody is good at the trumpet right off the bat, or learning music right away, because it's a completely foreign concept if you're just learning how to do it. I will go at my student's pace of learning, but also push them to practice and always learn more.
