I am a very enthusiastic and motivated instructor who loves working with students of all ages to share my love of music. I started flute and piano as a little girl and participated in many flute competitions and performances. I was accepted to Brigham Young University's music program for flute performance and received my minor in music. Performing and competing has been very rewarding to me and I want to share that with others. I am now a mom to three beautiful little girls and continue to play music at every opportunity!
I have been teaching lessons since I was in high school. I began teaching private lessons part time and have been teaching students on and off ever since then. I firmly believe in every student's ability to succeed and so I emphasize consistent, focused practice. I have helped multiple students gain a love for their instrument and go on to compete and perform as well. I encourage the students have fun and pursue their dreams. My students are encouraged to participate in competitions and recitals so that they have every opportunity to progress.
For beginning students, I place a large emphasis on the fundamentals i.e. scales, chord progressions etc. I also start them on solo pieces and like them to choose the pieces they are working on. I believe that if they choose their repertoire then they will have greater love and enthusiasm for the music. I also encourage them to push beyond what they think they can do. I work hard to match my teaching style to the needs of each and every student. I am classically trained and will help my students engage with and love the music they are creating.
It is important and rewarding for both me and the student to have a passion for their music and learning. Because of this, it is important to me that each student sets their own goals. I will encourage and help the students to set high but realistic goals that will bring them enthusiasm for the music. I try to bring inspiration and a lot of guidance to each student. And I love to have fun. When teaching, I will begin with scales and chord progressions (it's so important to have a strong foundation!) and then move in to more complicated and rewarding pieces of music.
