Hello, I have been playing piano for OVER 20 years and have a lot of experience teaching children. I have started teaching piano from about 12 years ago and love what I do. I have served as the church pianist for over 10 years. Piano has always been a lifelong hobby for me. Whenever I get stressed out or need a little motivation, I always sit on my piano chair and start playing some classical music. It not only soothes me but after I play a few songs, I feel a whole lot better and am able to tackle on my next task. You know how everyone needs a getaway from time to time? Piano has always been my getaway. Unfortunately, it is too big for me to carry around but luckily, I have one in my bedroom that I can walk over to whenever I need it most. Maybe playing the Piano can be your getaway if you give it a chance.
EXPERIENCE
Learning piano is fun. I started playing at a very young age and when I mean young, I mean really young. I started playing the piano when I was 3 1/2 and I had no idea what I was doing back then but my Mom persistently sent me to music school. Today, I am so thankful that because of her persistence and patience, I was able to become a great pianist. There were a lot of rough patches when the music got really difficult to play and I wanted to quit multiple times but despite the challenges, my Mom was my #1 fan and kept encouraging me through the process. Likewise, Parents, I'm sure you are reading my profile, playing the piano requires not just your child to learn the piano but your role truly determines their success in playing this instrument. It is not easy but I promise, in the end, it is truly worth it. The times you put in to practicing, there truly is a reward at the end of it all. Your hard work will pay off. So shall we give this a try? :)
METHODS USED
For BEGINNING students, I teach piano but also theory as well. In order to play the piano accurately, the student must know theory. I teach using James Bastien's primary-level 4 books. Within those books, they offer a Piano book, Theory book, Performance book, and a Technic book. Depending on the child's level and ability to play, I will incorporate what I see is the best book to use for each individual student. For my INTERMEDIATE students, I focus on scales and finger movement. I start with teaching Hanon (finger techniques) as well as Czerny. I also teach a compilation of different Sonatinas. Practice is key!!!
LESSON STYLE
The key to being successful in playing the piano is Practice. I always encourage my students to practice but also, it is very important for the Parent to take part in their child's learning. I assign homework weekly/bi-weekly depending on how often we meet for lessons. At the start of the next lesson, we will go over the homework and I will either pass them or they are required to re-do it for homework. I find that with homework, my students practice more and they improve drastically compared to students that do not practice. I believe that with anything, if you put in the time and effort, you will truly succeed.
