I have been teaching voice and piano over 25 years. I am a singer, accompanist, actor and writer. I also have my own light opera company and have experience as a director and costumer. Over the years I have taught at public and patrochial schools, two colleges, privately, and at two music schools. I have performed opera, operetta, musical theatre, cabaret, oratorio, church music, and as a comedic and serious actor. Currently, I teach privately, at a music school, and as vocal coach at Arts High in Jersey City.
I am an experienced teacher and performer for over 30 years. I have taught privately, public and parochial school, and college level. I am an experienced actress as well as a singer. I play piano for my voice students and have them record their lessons. I have a recital in my home every year for students and parents. I teach both voice and piano and many of my students have gone on to have careers in music. This includes teaching and performing. I have taught students of all ages since I began teaching and continue to do so.
I believe in teaching piano students the basics and how to read music to start. I have taught using almost every piano series available. For voice students, I teach technique, do breathing and vocal exercises, and work on songs. I teach basic music reading, interpretation of songs, as well as good techique and diction. I believe every student should site read and read well. I teach how to read music from the beginning to piano students and teach basic reading to vocalists. I do prefer vocalists who have learned an instrument first but will consider those willing to learn.
I try to relax the student first with body relaxation and breathing methods. We then do warm up vocal exercises to build the voice and then work on songs. I play the accompaniments on piano for them and they can record all of the lesson. I also do vocal coaching and incorporate acting methods. Piano students need to learn how to play basic songs first but then we can start to incorporate songs or other music they like into their lessons. I lke to approach all students in a light hearted manner and require practice but do understand everyone has a life and does other things.
