Overview:
I am a dedicated and joyful teacher who has been privileged to perform many musical duties over the years. I love to share what knowledge and experience I have with as many people as possible! Whatever your age or acumen I'd be grateful to teach and learn right along with you! I graduated from California State University Long Beach in 2016, with Bachelor's degree of Music Performance emphasizing jazz studies and guitar. I've gotten to play with a variety of productions, musical groups and many amazing musicians over my 10-15 years in music.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching guitar and piano since high school. Throughout college I began to take on more students and teach group classes in guitar and jazz. I've had the opportunity to learn from some of the best music educators around. The study of musical pedagogy is a top priority for me. I'm a firm believer in the concept of students learning at their own pace. The last thing I want to do, is make you feel stress when playing/performing! It is my goal to bring a relaxed and easy atmosphere to learning music.
METHODS USED
I tend to use standard materials, especially for beginning players. But I will also mix in exercises and techniques tailored specifically to the students needs. It is good to learn from books, but also important to vet information that is not necessarily needed or already soundly in their techniques. Every musician is unique and they have their own way about learning and progressing. For more advanced students, learning as much repertoire as possible will be stressed. Exercises geared toward sight reading and improvisation will also be focused on. Recitals and competitions are always at the students discretion, but will be highly encouraged!
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is very down to earth and fully based on the desires of the students. If you want to learn rock music and only rock music that is what we will learn. I may work in some other genres and songs that are directly linked to the style of music that you want to learn. But the student's interests are the main focus. I believe and have come to understand musicians are made in a variety of ways. Yes there are certain fundamentals and essentials that all great musicians possess, but how we go about learning is always unique to ourselves!
