Overview:

I am a professional musician and educator in New York City, I love talking about anything related to music, I am constantly challenging myself to learn new things about music and the greatest process to learn more about music is to share it with others. I've arguably learned more from my students over the years than they have from me. I went to Berklee College of Music on a full-ride scholarship, I graduated in 2013 with an honors diploma in music education and performance from the Global Jazz Institute. After Berklee I moved directly to NYC, I have performed extensively with my own band in Europe and the United States and also with other groups as a sideman in Central America, Africa, Europe and across the United States. I have studied and performed closely with many Grammy Award winning and renowned artists such as Danilo Perez, Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade (drummer for norah jones), Ben Stree, John Patitucci and many others.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching Private Lessons when I was 17 to elementry school age students and fell in love with it immediatley, I love sharing with others and figuring out how to make the impossible possible. Music can seem mysterious or daunting at first, but my job is to break it down in a methodical way to help my students digest a song/topic and reveal the way a "mystery" functions.  Since highschool I've always had a handful of students that I've worked with weekly in my private studio. During college I spent a semseter student teaching at a small school outside of Boston as well as teaching at several jazz workshops in Panama, West Africa and France. I've taught in a wide variety of settings from one-on-one to large groups of differnt instrumentation and have worked with all ages from 3 to 64!! I take each student seriously and cater my curriculmn to fit their individual needs and interests.

METHODS USED

I create and tailor my lesson plans and course to each student. In general we balance working on technique, tone, repertoire (songs) and improvising/composing. I always pick music to study that the student is interested in as well as classic pieces that are timeless relics in the music world. I have several method books that I also work out of such as the Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Jazz Bass Method, George Vance, Simandl and several more. Above all I make sure that lessons are interesting and enriching to the student.

LESSON STYLE

I am confident I can present high expectations to your students through experiences they would find exciting and empowering. I strongly believe that while only some students continue performing music as adults, for the majority an experience in a music program is an enlightening introduction to the love of learning. I consider it an honor to share the love of learning I have for music, knowing it is a model that will continue to inspire students to seek their own goals and learning with passion.  Beyond this I covet opportunities to show all students that through the development they experience in studying music, they become citizens who are better equipped to contribute to their communities. The opportunities for music students to realize the value of listening, and the value in applying one’s attention to extended ideas, are among a music instructor’s greatest responsibilities. I believe that their involvement in music or another art form equip them with invaluable tools that will help them throughout their lives in both career and personal settings.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
