2013-2016- Principal Flutist, Mercer University
2013, 2016- NFA Collegiate Flute Choir Participant
I am extremely passionate about all things music. I have been playing the flute and piano for 15 years. I graduated from Mercer University in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. I have performed at many musical conventions during my career, including the National Flute Association Convention in 2013 and 2015. I was also recently selected to perform in the NFA Collegiate Flute Choir at the 2016 annual convention. Through my graduate coursework at Georgia College & State University, I have learned how to play the guitar and the ukulele. I have been playing both for the past four years, and I consider myself advanced on these instruments as well. Music is such an important part of my life, and I look forward to sharing my musical abilities with others.
I have been playing musical instruments for the past ten years. As a former All-State musician, I mentored my peers to improve their musical abilities in high school. I have been giving flute and piano lessons to novices for over five years. While at Mercer University, I taught various high school students in the Middle Georgia area and assisted them in preparing for All-State auditions as well as other performances. Through the lessons I provided and a consistent practice schedule, all of my students improved in their musical abilities. As a professional musician, I have experience providing music lessons for the following instruments: piano, flute, guitar, and ukuele.
Every student requires a unique sale of teaching. For beginning students, I usually start with a full overview of the instrument they have chosen. This includes providing the student with a fingering chart as well as a beginner's book. For intermediate or advanced students, I typically assess their abilities before beginning with any lessons. No matter the student's skill level, I always stress the need to develop a consistent practice schedule outside of lesson time. These methods generally improve the students musical talents.
I consider myself to be an extremely encouraging teacher. It is important for the student to know they are supported in their musical journey. At the conclusion of each lesson, I give the student a goal that can be reached by the time of the next lesson. Any improvement in the student's musical ability is immediately noted and rewarded. It is important for the student to develop a passion for music and believe in their own talents. Although the lesson is primarily for the growth of the musician, I also grow along with the student in adjusting my teaching styles to their skill level and personality.
