My teaching experience dates back to my college days when I began teaching a small clarinet choir at a private school close to my campus. I graduated from college and began working as a middle school band director. During the middle part of my career I was the assistant director for the local high school band, but my true love was working with the middle school students. I remained a head middle school director until my retirement a few years ago. I have moved to a new state and miss teaching so decided to teach lessons out of one of the rooms of my home. I look forward to sharing years of practical experience with your band student.

For beginning students I focus on getting them used to the first 5 most common notes on their instrument through both beginner methods and technical exercises. I can use whatever method they already have or I can recommend a method for us to study. For more advanced students I work with them through any required music they may have (if a band student at a school) or through solo and more advanced technical exercises along with genres they find interesting. For an adult who wishes to begin we would follow the same type beginning but then allow the free choice of music and difficulty level in which they are interested.
