Associate Degree: Miami Dade College
I love the teaching profession and the process of instilling musical knowledge and passion in others. I first started learning music in middle school when I was a part of the concert band. I later went on to high school where I took piano classes and became my main instrument. I eventually graduated from Miami Dade College with an Associates in Arts degree in music education. I'm a musician with eleven years of playing experience. I am currently band lead at my home church and often play at other local churches. I have experience in musical styles such as jazz, gospel, songo, pop and rock.
I have experience teaching back to my college days. Since then I have found that I love to share my knowledge in music. I began teaching private lessons 5 years ago. I like to motivate my students to have a consistent practicing schedule. I like combining music theory with modern music. I always encourage students perform weather in recitals, shows, bands as well as get their creativity flowing by helping write their own compositions. I make it a priority to keep my students engaged and passionate about music.
I always like to know what is the goal of each of my students. What style or genre they like as well as if they are aiming to be a solo performer or part of a band or ensemble. I like to start students on method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this will teach students basic music theory as well as how to read on a staff. If also like contemporary music, I will teach them how to read chords letters, so to play styles such as jazz, pop, rock and contemporary gospel music. So there are many topic and subjects that can be covered which keeps lessons interesting and engaging.
It is very reward to see the passion of a student committed to learn. The process of learning is unique to each student and so everyone learns at their own pace. As teacher I am aware of this and I adapt my lessons accordingly. I am a very patient person and understanding person. My priority is that each student understands the material. This means that communication is key. Back an forths and questions are always well come. Knowing students musical interests and inspirations also helps in order to incorporate it into the lessons.
