ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

City University of New York -- Queens College

Overview:
I love music and I love teaching! I took piano lessons as a child, was in a band as a teenager, and began giving piano lessons in my 20's. I teach all styles of music, sight-reading, music theory and ear training. For those students more more interested in learning pop or jazz, I give special attention to chords and "lead sheet" playing. I have worked with many singers to teach them how to accompany themselves on piano. I am comfortable with all levels, including beginners. I also lead a choir and play the piano at a Unitarian congregation.

METHODS USED
I use a combination of established teaching methods, such as Alfred, Bastien, Hanon and Hal Leonard, as well as my own methods, which I've developed over the years. I also effectively utilize technology, such as Finale notation software to create special arrangements of songs for my students, YouTube videos for audio/visual support, and iPads. I have cultivated a warm demeanor and good sense of humor, which has helped my students remain engaged and in anticipation of the next lesson. I thoroughly follow-up on each assignment and maintain lesson plans for all my students.

Jed is wonderful with my 7 year old. He teaching method is fun and energetic. Jed goes above and beyond keeping my sons attention, sends video clips and even searches out music my son loves -- which keeps him engaged to play and practice. Thank you!

He is fun to work with. He will teach you according to your level but will push you beyond your comfort zone so you will try harder and improve.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
