My name is Jeehoon. I’ve studied voice performance over 15 years in Korea and the United States. In 2018, I completed and received a doctoral degree at the University of Minnesota. For 15 years, I conducted church and professional choirs and participated in many performances as an opera singer on stage. Through these experiences, I was able to know how to sing naturally and comfortably without any artificial sound. It ultimately became my goal when I teach my students. Some people say singing is hard. Honestly, that is true but it can be easy if you know your singing mechanism through your muscles. I am completely confident in my ability to make them better than before. I am a very passionate, positive and patient teacher. I have good relationships with my current students. Hopefully, I can meet many people and help them to find their pleasure for singing.
I have a lots of teaching experience in Korea and America. Both experience made me to be a stronger teacher and how to approach people having different voice. My teaching experience was started from church background. I started vocal performance when I was 20 years old. At the same time, I started to conduct a church choir and a professional choir as a vocal instructor and a assistant conductor in Korea. I achieved to make beautiful sound for those choirs and they had great concert and reviews in American tour. After studying abroad, I have met many students at school and having a great relationship them.
It is hard to explain about teaching method for voice lesson because the voice is not visible. When I was studying a doctoral program I studied hard about vocal pedagogy. Generally, voice teachers abstractly tend to teach their students. So, I have been emphasizing how to know their body mechanism first before letting them sing. Actually, when we sing many muscles work together but they do not know which muscle works. For this reason, I generally used to show videos for better understanding combing oral lesson.
My final goal is how to enjoy singing. In my opinion, the most important thing is that singing should be comfortable to both a singer and an audience. For this reason, I generally help them to sing comfortably. Most of the students have a common problem to sing. I would say it is artificial voice which makes their voice tired and injured. When I taught students some of them struggled with development about their voice quality. Honestly, it is hard to get the result quickly as it takes relatively long time than other instruments like a marathon. However, all of my students finally got a good result including won the competition.
