My name is Jeff Gray. I am an upright and electric bassist with over 30 years experience playing and 20 years teaching music. I am a highly distinct and diverse musician and teach from beginner to advanced levels. Main styles include rockabilly slap, jazz/gypsy jazz, Americana, country, western swing, classical, bluegrass, surf, jump blues and many others. I am extremely knowledgeable in music theory and teach sight-reading skills.
I began teaching privately in 1994 and my main focus is always on the student's growth. The gift of music was passed down to me through my mentors (some famous, some not) and I always vowed to do the same. I have a very diverse grasp of music and love to blend different genres together. I also love to help bring out the creativity in other people. It is a passion of mine.
I believe that this takes a very personal and trusting relationship between student and teacher. I feel that my responsibility is to decipher the student's most natural way to absorb information and to play into that strength. I am also accountable for refining the student's natural abilities while fostering emerging creativity in order to hone a balanced and effective musical person. The student will progress to have a firm knowledge of understanding, composing, communicating, and performing music. Many times over, I have been successful at achieving this goal.
I love to see my student's grow and achieve their goals. I am excellent at catering to my student's needs to make a practical lesson plan to get from A to B. MAny of my student's have not left since I have taken them on. Some of them are in their 7th year of study. I am very proud of that.
