ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
While I have a B.A. in Ccommunications from American University, my training has come from being a professional musician, singer/songwriter, recording artist and instructor for decades.  Prior to becoming a songwriting and guitar instructor, I studied for many years with several highly skilled professionals.
Overview:
As a professional guitarist, Jeff is a finger-style acoustic guitar specialist.  Some of his significant influences include James Taylor, Ry Cooder, Keb' Mo', John Martyyn, Eric Clapton, Marcel Dadi, and Jorma Kaukonen. As a music educator, Jeff created and instructed classes in pop songwriting, lyric writing, jingle writing and production that were offered at colleges, universities and private schools from coast to coast, including UCLA Extension, Santa Monica College, Pasadena City College and The Harrison School Of Music. As a songwriter and composer, Jeff's compositions have earned him over 35 awards from various national and international songwriting competitions including finalist selections in two national talent competitions: The Hottest New Artist Competition (in Virginia) and The Telluride Blues Festival's Acoustic Blues Competition (in Colorado).  Jeff is also a former staff songwriter for a long-standing NYC music publishing company and has had a number of his songs and compositions featured in film, TV and other media.A reporter from patch.com recently described Jeff as "a consummate songwriter".As a vocalist, Jeff has a versatile, high-baritone/low tenor able to effectively deliver songs and jingles in a variety of styles including pop, rock, blues, R&B, country, jazz, folk, children’s, etc.   His voice has been recorded and featured in a variety of projects for projects ranging from industrials, children’s television programming, film and jingles. As a live music performer, Jeff has appeared in clubs, coffeehouses, colleges, music and arts festivals coast to coast, mostly as a solo performer (acoustic guitar and vocals). Repertoire varies from all original songs to a combination of original and eclectic cover tunes (running the gamut from Duke Ellington to Elvis Costello to Shania Twain to Alicia Keys).
EXPERIENCE
WORKING GUITARIST: I've recorded 3 full-length albums of my original music, playing most of the acoustic and electric guitars on them all.  My guitar work has been heard in various music libraries and featured in film, TV and radio. Decades of performing experience, playing in a multitude of settings: concert, club, college, coffeehouse, private and corporate functions, etc. I STUDIED SONGWRITING WITH: Sheila Davis (author of several best selling books, including “The Craft Of Lyric Writing”, Writers Digest) and Lou Stallman (co-writer of #1 R&B hit, “It’s Gonna Take A Miracle”).   I STUDIED VOCALS WITH: David Collier (NYC), Ray Buckingham (NYC), Robert Edwards (L.A.) and Steven Memel (L.A.) I STUDIED GUITAR WITH: Robert J. Nolan (NJ)
METHODS USED
My instructional methods are customized to fit the individual student's preferences, goals and learning style.  I never force my "agenda" or "method" on anyone.  I cater to my students' guitar and musical goals. If a student wants to learn to read music, I generally suggest method books such as Hal Leonard Guitar Method or Alfred Guitar Method.  Some students do not have any desire to learn to read music, so in that case, I use tablature to write out the songs for them.
LESSON STYLE
I would describe my lesson style as fun, friendly, focused and goal-oriented.  If you're a beginner, my goal is to get you up and running on the guitar as soon as possible.  if you've played a while, but have reached an impasse as to how to get to the next level, then I zero in on the reasons wh, fill in the gaps, and provide the materials and instruction you'll need to improve.  If you are advanced, the focus can be on a variety of fine-tuning areas, such as chord voicings, open and non-standard tunings, repetoire, live and recorded performance, reharmonization, and many more topics.

I am a beginning guitar player that has now taken five lessons with Jeff. I cannot speak highly enough of Jeff has a guitar teacher! I have learned more in five lessons than the months I spent trying to learn on my own. Jeff has introduced me to music apps that I can use during my practice sessions, followed up our lessons with comments and/or music, is very encouraging - yet holds high standards. During my lessons I feel that Jeff is very observant and tuned in to your positioning when playing - whether it be your wrist, your arm, or your fingers. He always offers recommendations on ways to try to fix something that I might be struggling with. He really pays attention. As an aside, Jeff is a very talented songwriter and musician. Check him out on YouTube. His songs are very beautiful and inspirational. I'm honored to be his student! -Linda-

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
