Overview:
I serve as the professor of saxophone at West Virginia University. I also have small class of advanced online students. I am an engaged and encouraging instructor and I hope to help each student reach his or her potential as well as his or her unique goals. Every student is different and there is no single correct approach to teaching. I hold degrees from the University of Michigan, Northwestern University, and Arizona State University. I am in demand as an internationally recognized soloist and chamber musician. For more information, go to www.jeffsiegfried.com.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching saxophone since I was myself a high school student but my most serious experience has been over the past few years. I worked as a teaching assistant to the world-renowned saxophone studio at the University of Michigan prior to my appointment at West Virginia University. I teach in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, commercial styles, and everything in-between. My saxophone studio at WVU features talented students from around the country. My online studio features talented students from around the world.
METHODS USED
My methodology contains five planks: Listening - exploring important music for the saxophone as well as other instruments; Fundamentals - engaging in exercises to improve overall facility with the saxophone as a whole; Scales - playing scales and technical exercises to improve dexterity and and fluidity on the saxophone; Etudes - completing weekly etude assignments to gain speed as a learner Repertoire - performing and practicing core pieces written for the saxophone as well as jazz standards.
LESSON STYLE
I want to see students achieve their own goals. Not everyone is meant to take the same path in music but everyone should have the opportunity to grow and learn. My hope is to help each student uncover all of their latent talent and excel to their utmost ability as a saxophonist, musician, and person. To that end, I really aim to get to know each student and personalize their instruction. My students describe me as intense but compassionate, warm, and understanding. It's always wonderful to meet and work with new students.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
