I stared playing drums at the early age of 5. I graduated from Musicians Institute, one of the premier music institutions in the world. I have a passion for teaching drums for any age or skill level. I have toured the world as a professional drummer since the age of 21. I currently tour, give lessons, and own one of Ohio's best recording studios. I have played drums on over 150 records. One of my favorite subjects to teach is how to survive as a drummer in todays music industry. I have had the opportunity to play venues as big as Columbus Commons and Promo-west Pavilion and with artists on major record labels as well as the dayton philharmonic.
I have over 7 years of experience teaching all ages and skill levels. I teach based upon the learning style of the student. I want your lessons to be fun and motivating. After all, to learn an instrument takes discipline. If you're not inspired, you can't learn as well. I encourage my students to play in bands and get involved with the local music scene. I am always looking to bring on new students who are excited to learn about this awesome instrument. I can teach any style of music to any age or skill level.
My methods vary from student to student. Everyone learns differently. Although i recommend learning how to read music, it is not required and there have been plenty of great drummers that do not read. A normal lesson consists of covering all aspects of learning an instrument. We will do things such as go over sight reading, playing along to tracks, studying what makes the drum set sound great, as well as listening to music and watching videos of drummers that inspire us. You are welcome to film certain concept ideas during the lesson to help you practice throughout the week.
I set realistic goals for all of my students to progress their education while at the same time letting them stay inspired. I take a big initiative to find out what kind of music my students listen to as well as what inspires them. By knowing a students musical preference and learning style it helps me be more successful teaching them. We will track their development and we'll acknowledge accomplishments! I have worked with some of the greatest music teachers in the world and have stolen lots of proven concepts and teaching theories.
