I have been teaching music in the Rochester area- both in public schools and privately for almost 30 years. I know what works! I have developed a well defined philosopjy for acheiving success on musical instruments in general and the piano in particular. I have played just about any style of music in any tyoe of band you can name . I was an accompanist for ballet studios and universtiies in the Rocheter area and in California. I have been a voice coach and an accompanist. I have directed choirs of over 75 children while I accompanied. I have played in jazz big bands, pop, funk, country, blues, salsa etc. I am a MIDI/ music tech O.G. I can certainly help anhyone withmusic theory.
I have been teaching music in public schools and privately for over 30 years. I have taught successfully almost every instrument , both in large groups and individualized instruction. Piano/ keyboard is my specialty. I can also teach guitar, drums and trumpet. Although I have a classical background, my element is popular genres. I can teach beginners to achieve success almost immediately and teach advanced students to reach their full potential. I can also teach little tricks that your old music teacher forgot to show you!
I teach "Total Piano". Whether you are young or young at heart, a beginner or an advanced player, I will teach the entire instrument. You will learn to read and to play by ear. After all, isn't all music playing by ear? Every style of playing can be taught, whether it is the great classics or picking out the notes you hear off the TV. I teach how to listen and apply what you hear. Classical, jazz, rock, country, R &B, gospel- all part of the method. You don't just become a keyboardist. You become a musician.
I craft a music program based on every individual's strenght, weakness and most important: interests. Having taught music in public schools for over 30 years, I am familiar with almost every pedagogical method. Whether it is Suzuki, Gordon, Kodaly, Orff or Barry Harris, I draw from all the methodology to help all students reach their comfort zones. I will also teach how to practice your instrument- something that is often neglected. Most important, I can teach how to actively listen to music.
