2018 Senior Musician of the year
I am a passionate trombone player who has participated in many events such as All District band in high school. My sophomore year I was principle chair for the all district band. I have also performed with the All State band. I enjoy teaching younger musicians how to be better people and better musicians. I have taught people before it is something I truly enjoy. I am planning on attending ISU to major in music therapy to further improve the quality of my teaching and also branch out to teach kids who happen to have a disability and on the spectrum. I am a very hard worker and thrive off the happiness and progress of those I happen to teach.
In my high school years I served as section leader. I taught people everyday how to improve at their instruments. I also served as principal trombone in wind ensemble. I helped my section daily with rhythmical playing and improving slide technique. I want to inspire my students to be better versions of themselves. Being a musician involves building character. I have also taught people at the college level. I believe you are never too young to teach as long as you have passion for it. I know I can make a student have an enjoyable time performing their instrument.
For beginning students I teach my students using the Arban methods book. I do this to build consistency with slide positions. I also use my tuner and metronome to make sure students are playing in time and in tune. With out this stuff bad habits can happen from the start. I introduce solos for beginners and let my students pick what they want to play from the list. I make sure I reward students for their efforts. As long as they practice I am proud of them. I also introduce the Melodious etude book for their lyrical playing. If they want to learn Jazz I use the real books and use blues scales patterns to teach students basics about soloing.
I encourage my students to practice them be rewarding them for their efforts. I try my best to make sure they are not overwhelmed. I care about my students progress and teach them things they mostly want to play. I encourage my students to record themselves playing and also use social media to connect with other people who are passionate about music just like them. Making my students enjoy their craft is one of the most important things for me. If the student is not having fun, then I am not doing my job right.
