I am a creative and motivational music teacher who loves helping students discover the power or music and performance. In 2020 I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and Minor in music theory. My music career spans back to 2011 where I classically trained in viola for 8 years traveling all over the world to perform in ensembles. During the past four years I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge with students and helping them cultivate their musical foundations and skills. My teaching revolves around identifying each students learning styles and helping them develop their practice skills to help them reach their maximum potential.
My playing experience dates back over ten years while my teaching experience dates back four years. I have had the opportunity to travel to Europe and South America to perform with symphony orchestras. I spent my college days making extra spending cash playing in weddings and small events. I also began my teaching experience tutoring children in viola and violin at the nearby schools. Since college I have tutored over 50 students in viola and violin. These students have continued on to become music performers, scholars, and teachers.
For students that are children or just beginning I start with establishing foundations in music structure and rhythm. The Suzuki school of teaching is often used but not always. Intermediate students are flexible with where the lesson plan is headed while each lesson is tailored to the individual student's learning style. Intermediate students are coached on form, music theory, and musicality. Advanced students are even more flexible with lesson style depending on individual goals followed up with coaching on musicality and performance presence.
I like to see where each student's natural talents and personal desires are headed and act as a servant leader to get them there. Students are encouraged to pursue music in the way that will keep them engaged reaping maximum benefits whether that be to build parts of their brain that would have otherwise lie dormant, or become the best solo performer they can be. Acknowledging and celebrating even the smallest wins is what brings the most joy in my tutoring sessions. Progress is kept and measured via video logs that are shared with the student along their music journey.
