BA in Music, University of Colorado at Boulder
2000-2014 Lead Vocalist, The Fabulous Boogienauts, 2 studio albums completed
I'm a passionate and energetic instructor who loves working with students of all ages and sharing my love of music. In 1994, I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. Performing as lead singer in a very fun dance/funk band with a horn section has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I've been fortunate to play almost every large venue in our great city as well as open up for famous acts such as Howard Jones at the Gothic Theater. People love to dance to my band's music and always remark about how much they enjoy themselves at our shows. I love to help my students blossom as performers with amazing stage presence and powerful vocal skills. I want to share my gift because music is the best gift of all!
I have been teaching music for right around 10 years now. After having my own children, I started sharing Kindermusik with babies, toddlers and parents. I then moved into teaching preschool students music enrichment classes. When I found out that our local School of Rock was hiring, and being a professional musician myself, I felt that was an amazing fit. I was able to teach young kids just starting out and help them learn how to work in a band together. I came to realize that I have a way with students that really brings them out of their shells and gets them excited about learning to sing. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity, on stage and as a teacher, to inspire students of all ages. I am a very passionate vocalist, and I want to show my students how to be as well. I look forward to working with you!
I love helping students of all ages expand their vocal ranges and learn proper breathing and singing techniques in order to be able to really BELT out a song! Belting is my specialty. I also enjoy teaching song writing, music theory, and basic keyboarding skills as requested. I love helping students prepare for upcoming performances, auditions and recitals, from proper microphone usage, to choosing songs, to making the songs their own! Additionally, I'm known for making lessons fun and letting students work on their current favorite songs in addition to my own suggestions. I will even sing along with you until you feel comfortable! First we will practice proper breathing, then do some simple warms ups, then on with the show!
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students get really excited about reaching their goals. I consistently encourage students by giving them positive feedback about the progress they are making. I also help them push themselves to become better singers by being an inspiration and a mentor for them throughout their journey. I do feel that music is a journey, not a destination. I inspire my students to develop an appreciation for music that lasts their entire lives, and so my instruction is tailored to the individual no matter where they are on their journey. I have a great deal to share with my students and they can see that I am passionate about helping them become the best they can be!
