I am an enthusiastic voice teacher who is dedicated to my craft. Currently, I am an adjunct voice teacher at New York University while studying there for my Master of Music degree in classical voice along with an additional Post-Master's Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy (May 2020 candidate). I have a particular interest in Vocology and have established a relationship with the NYU Langone Voice Center as part of my program where I have observed otolaryngologists and speech-language pathologists in their working environment. My Bachelor of Arts degree is from Christopher Newport University in Music Theater & Dance with a minor in Vocal Performance. As a performer, I have sung in venues to include: Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the National Opera Center, Harrison Opera House, Frederick Loewe Theatre, Provincetown Playhouse, and many others.
I first began teaching private music lessons in high school when I taught my neighbors' children. I continued teaching through my undergraduate degree and loved it so much that I decided to make it a career and am now getting my advanced certificate in vocal pedagogy to further my knowledge and be the best voice teacher I can be. As an adjunct voice instructor at NYU I am always thrilled to teach a variety of levels of voice students ranging from beginner to advanced. I love how every voice is individual and I have a particular interest in discovering how each voice can be managed to sing more sustainably and beautifully.
My teaching methods are individually tailored to the student's needs and abilities. For young students and/or for those with less voice experience, I like to combine the basics of singing along with musicianship skills to set the student up for success, incorporating lots of fun to keep the young students interested in practice and lessons. For more experienced students, I like to start with warmups and exercises that are designed to set the student up for success in repertoire, and then finish the lesson working through repertoire specifically working through challenging areas of each piece and finding an emotional connection to each piece once ideal technique is established.
I believe learning how to sing should be an enjoyable and education experience. As a teacher who enjoys encouraging my students, I hope to help you achieve your full potential as a singer, freeing the sound of your natural voice through the fulfillment of attainable and realistic short- and long-term goals. Since every voice is unique, I look forward to helping you discover what makes you special as a singer and performer, educating you on scientifically-based practices as well as the artistic nature of singing. Further, I aim to help you connect with your audience and embody the character of each of your songs. I hope that through taking voice lessons with me, you will feel empowered and confident in the knowledge of how to use your voice effectively and efficiently, quickly overcoming the challenges that are naturally a part of the overall experience.
