Overview:
I have been teaching private flute lessons for over seven years, and I cherish the unique experiences I have with each new student I work with. I graduated from the University of North Texas with my BM (bachelor of music) in flute performance, and from Stony Brook University with my MM (master of music) in flute performance. I have performed in orchestras across the United States, in Canada, and in Europe, and I have been fortunate to study with wonderful mentors throughout my career. Under their guidance, I have performed and competed as a soloist and chamber musician all over the country. I am eager to share what I have learned with my students to help them grow into the musicians they hope to be!
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching private lessons for over ten years. While pursuing my bachelor’s degree at the University of North Texas, I taught private lessons for students ranging from 10 to 17 years old. I helped them prepare for local competitions, placement playing tests, and even for their college auditions. I also coached several of my colleagues at UNT for chamber music performances, solo competitions, audition tapes, and professional auditions. During my master’s degree at Stony Brook University, I coached my colleagues who are pursuing their DMA’s, and taught an adult student working toward returning to school for a degree in music. As a high school student, I taught private lessons for beginners and coached my band friends as the flute section leader in our marching/concert band. During one summer, I worked as a coach for an adult flute choir program through the Los Angeles Music Center, which concluded with a concert at the Disney Concert Hall. This program was designed for people who wanted to relearn how to play the flute after years away from their instruments (mostly 50+ years old). After the program ended, its director founded another flute choir, which several of the members joined. I participated in this flute choir, and continued to coach the members, for several years. I love meeting new flute students and learning about how they learn, how I can best help them grow, and what will make lessons enjoyable. I love coming up with new methods to make music fun! I teach all ages and ability levels!
METHODS USED
I do not believe in a "one-size fits all" method of teaching. I value working with my students on a personal level to determine what their goals are for lessons, and then make a plan to address those goals to the best of my ability. For beginner students, I always focus on building a solid understanding of music reading, rhythm, fingering of notes, and general musical concepts that may be glossed over in a classroom setting (which is where many students begin their musical education). Through etudes, scales, duets, and short solo pieces, I work with my beginners to build their essential skills and their confidence. With adult students, I create a customized curriculum that suits their goals! Regardless of your age or playing level, I will work with you to make sure you are completely satisfied with your lessons!
LESSON STYLE
As I mentioned before, each student is unique, so I don't teach everyone the same way. Instead, I have a highly flexible teaching style, which allows me to meet a student's individual needs for lessons. I take the time to learn about my students' learning preferences and create new ways to teach material that will make more sense for them. For example: singing a rhythm for an auditory learner, versus patting the rhythm on our legs with a tactile learner, versus drawing visual representations of rhythm for a visual learner. There are millions of ways we can teach one concept, and I am always striving to find the best ways for each student!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
