Overview:

My name is Jens B. I am an award winning saxophone player, multi-i nstrumentalist, teacher, composer and producer from Denmark now living in Los Angeles. I offer saxophone lessons for jazz, pop,and rock for beginners, intermediary and advanced. I work seamlessly in all styles and genres and have a lifetime of experience in the professional music industry. I work as a musician, composer, producer and teacher and my work has been featured on more than 100 different records and films. I grew up with classical music playing violin since the age of 4 and then changed instrument to saxophone at the age of 12. I studied jazz and saxophone at The Rhytmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and The New School of Music in New York. I also play trumpet, guitar, bass, piano, drums, and more. I also write for symphony orchestra and produce electronic music. With my band O Future I have been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, ID, V, Q, NPR, Interview Mag, Pitchfork and hundreds of others. As a filmscorer I have scored and worked on numerous films Most notably I played all the live music in Lars Von Triers Cannes Film festival - Palme D'Or nominated, and Best European film winner, Melancholia. To help you not waste any money or energy I will give you your first lesson for free. In that case you can decide if my teaching is for you or not.

EXPERIENCE

As a teacher I can help you grow your abilities on your instrument. Help you achieve the cool warm sound you want from the saxophone. Help you get the dexterity on the instrument you need. And get a more broad understanding of how music is played and created. Throughout my career since I was 16 years old I have taught children, teenagers and adults from beginners to advanced levels. I hold a Masters degree in jazz, composition and teaching from The Rhytmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and have also taught several courses there and at other distinguished music conservatories. I have myself received lessons from some of the worlds leading jazz musicians like , George Garzone, BIll Evans, Reggie Workmann, Kenny Werner, Dave Liebman and many more.

METHODS USED

I believe in using your ears as the most important tool. Which means I believe in playing music rather than reading it. Growing up playing music by ear. I prefer this way of teaching and only use sheet music as an assistant to help the student get to a certain goal. As a teacher I can help you grow your abilities on your instrument. LESSON STYLE

It is important for me that the student is motivated and enjoys the lesson since they have to keep loving playing and practicing at home everyday to be able to progress properly. Learning music as learning anything is about exploration and repetition. Once you understand something you have to be able to do it correctly a few times before moving on. This can only be achieved if there is a certain amount of practicing involved. Not nessecarily a lot but a bit each day can create magic. The teacher is just a facilitator of ideas and motivation for the student to be inspired by.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
