Overview:
I began playing trumpet at a very young age, and have found it, and music in general, to be the most valuable means of communication available to us. I graduated from University of Maryland School of Music December 2014, and have played in a number of bands (both jazz and classical), taught private lessons, and worked as a festival clinician for local schools. I feel that private lessons provide an environment where both student and teacher may learn from each other, and where that knowledge is imparted in a friendly environment at a pace that is comfortable for both of us. I hope to convey the same energy and joy that inspired me to pursue music in my future students.
EXPERIENCE
I'm an enthusiastic, passionate teacher who appreciates the uniqueness and originality of any interested student. Having taught private lessons and clinics for eleven years, I am open to teaching a multitude of genres, and make it a priority to cater lessons to the interests of each individual student. Having worked with students ages ranging from seven years old to adult, I have developed a flexibility in my teaching style that is tailored to the goals and abilities of each student. I primarily teach from my home in Olney, Maryland, but also teach at students' homes.
METHODS USED
It is my belief that there are three components to learning and improving at music: skill and technique, musical creativity, and, most importantly, the genuine desire to learn and play music. An appetite and aspiration to learn is what molded me into the musician I am today, and I consider it to be the most valuable asset to any student. I motivate students to practice, but also encourage them to take time to listen and appreciate all forms of music, so that they may better understand and enjoy it. I begin with enough basics to build a foundation for whatever genre of music a student is interested in, and collaborate with him/her to meet their goals from that point forward.
LESSON STYLE
From the first lesson, the most important aspect of teaching is ensuring that the student is attaining the goals he/she is most excited about. If the student is enthusiastic and driven, the rest falls into place naturally. That's the way it's been for the students I've taught, and the way it began for myself. I make sure to celebrate the student's accomplishments and victories, but also address any points or facets of their performance that they could improve upon. Listening to, appreciating, and eventually understanding artists, be it Handel, Miles Davis, Elvis, or Coldplay, is a vital part of my teaching style. Inspiration is born from interest, and practice from passion.

Jeremy is wonderful and obviously very talented for his years of experience. His enthusiasm is contagious as he really helps his students learn music by pulling from their own interests. I would highly recommend him!
