Bachelor Degree: Marshall University
Music has been a part of my life since I can remember. I have my parents to thank for that! I'd be honored to be part of your musical journey. Performances may come and go, but music is a gift that will stay with you forever!
I've been playing trumpet and piano since I was 8, and have taught and played professionally for nearly twenty years, adding various qualifications, certifications, skills, and experiences to my repertoire along the way. I enjoy walking beginners through the first steps in a new direction. And if playing trumpet is an aspiration for you, I'd be happy to help at any level!
I graduated from Marshall University in 2006 with a degree in Music Education. A former professional music educator, my desire for freelancing and travel led me on a varied path all over the U.S. and Europe.
Finally having settled in St. Pete, I hope to return to an endeavor I love so much - teaching musicians! I've played on cruises, in orchestras and operas, for musicals, as a soloist, and as many jazz, community, marching, symphonic, brass, etc. ensembles as you can imagine! It's a wide array of experiences and talent that I hope to share.
All program students are assigned a daily routine to complete, song to perform, and focus exercise. For single lessons, I perform an inventory of skills, supplementary lesson, and assessment for an improvement plan. I select technique and training material in conjunction with any programs in which the student is currently participating (i.e. school band programs, other instruction, etc.). For more advanced students, consideration is given for playing goals, projects, performances, etc. It's my goal to help you meet your goal by supplementing your current practice methods with material that will make you sound amazing and hone your technical skill.
I prefer low stress, casual, and sometimes jovial - but engaging - lessons. All students are different, and players progress through their musical journey at different paces. So while I want to be a steady guide that motivates them, I also engage and interact with students in ways that fit them best. My teaching style centers around learning the student. I focus on the big picture. What can we do now that will make the most significant impact on the player's trajectory? Often, students should find themselves learning without knowing they are!
