ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Course Work: Self-Taught Through Online Classes
Overview:

I'm Jesse D., a passionate and versatile musician with over 17 years of experience, dedicated to helping you discover your potential and master the guitar. As a multi-instrumentalist, my passion for music ignited when I picked up my first guitar at the age of 12. Since then, I’ve explored various styles and instruments, continually expanding my skills and musical knowledge. I find great joy in teaching and guiding fellow musicians to reach their full potential. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your technique, I'm here to help you achieve your musical goals. My primary expertise is in guitar, but I also have experience with bass guitar, drums, and music production, having played in various bands across genres. I started my journey with formal lessons, which built a solid foundation, and I’ve continued to grow through self-study, online courses, and collaborating with other musicians. Lessons are available in my home studio, a comfortable and inviting space, and I’m also open to traveling to students' locations if needed.

EXPERIENCE

With over 17 years of experience as a guitarist, I've mastered my craft through self-teaching, deep dives into online courses and music theory books, and learning alongside fellow musicians. As a guitar instructor, I've developed a comprehensive and structured learning program designed to cater to each student's unique needs and goals. Currently, I perform with a local Milwaukee band called The Dead Pixels and play guitar for my church, Mercy Hill, where I also volunteer for various events. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to play in multiple bands, including traveling for performances and filling in on guitar, bass, and drums. Beyond performance, I have experience writing, recording, and producing my own music. I've learned to handle every aspect of music production, from recording instruments and using digital synthesizers to mixing and mastering tracks. I also have expertise in setting up equipment for live shows, basic guitar maintenance, and using various effects for diverse guitar sounds. My passion for music drives me to practice for hours daily, continuously honing my skills and studying professional guitar techniques in-depth.

METHODS USED

My teaching methods are centered around a structured approach that respects each student's individuality, goals, and learning styles. I have developed a comprehensive guitar learning resource, which I continuously update. This resource is organized into a 1-10 level system, with each level presenting increasingly advanced material. This progression ensures that students are always learning something new and making connections to previously acquired knowledge. Each level includes professionally crafted sheet music and tablature, technical exercises, songs, images, and charts, as well as backing tracks—both guitar-only and full band tracks—created by me. All materials are presented in detailed, organized PowerPoint presentations, which serve as both teaching tools and reference materials for students. I understand that not all students aspire to become expert guitarists, and that’s perfectly okay. I have students who prefer a more casual approach, focusing on learning songs rather than an in-depth curriculum. Whether you are dedicated to advancing your guitar skills and musicianship or simply wish to enjoy a leisurely hobby by learning a few songs, I will tailor your lessons and practice routine to suit your individual needs.

LESSON STYLE

I’m all about helping each student grow at their own pace. Everyone learns differently, so I make sure to customize practice routines and adjust how much info I throw at you depending on your style and focus. To keep things on track, I create a detailed profile for each student, highlighting areas of strength and areas we can level up. It’s a great way for both of us to see progress and stay focused on what matters. We’ll also set goals—short-term wins, medium-term challenges, and long-term dreams. This way, you can celebrate achievements along the way and keep pushing forward. Plus, I’ll show you how to practice smart so you’re making the most out of your practice time and nailing it outside of lessons, too!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
