Overview:
My intention is to make learning to play the guitar fun. Motivating students to practice brings me joy because I know starting out is tough. Teaching others comes effortlessly to me because I'm doing what I love. With 15 years of experience as a musician, you can feel confident in my ability to provide a quality service. I have worked at other music bussinesses as an instructor where quality standards were in place. In fact, I shadowed a well-known local instructor, Christian Foster, during his own private lessons to get a feel for how a real professional carries out a lesson.
EXPERIENCE
As for my experience, I have been playing guitar for 15 years, teaching for 5 years, and active in bands for 7 years. I was privileged to receive private guitar lessons myself for a decade. Also, I have a solid amount of experience with audio recording, mixing, and microphone techniques for amplifying instruments. As far as teaching credentials go, I have not earned any official documents from any institution. However, I am attending The Ohio State University with plans to graduate at the end of this year with a minor in music.
METHODS USED
The material I teach covers scales, chords, and music theory. We can practice a variety of exercises that help improve your rhythm and dexterity. In order to tie everything together, I think it is important to play music with each other and along with recorded music as an example. Admittedly, the content of scales, chords, and music theory in itself can be dry. This is why I tend to customize how to practice something like a pentatonic minor scale. For instance, we may use a rhythmic exercise that makes it incredibly more fun to practice such a scale.
LESSON STYLE
Each individual learns at his/her own pace in his/her own way. Getting to know my students with a free consultation helps me get an appropriate lesson plan together. Once started, I am always thinking about how to fine-tune things as we go. I like to cover a variety of material during our practices, but make sure to send you home with your own folder of print-outs for personal reference. I can also email sheets to those who would rather not use paper! Our practice environment is certainly friendly to mistakes and questions.
