I am a guitarist, composer and teacher living in Los Angeles. I am currently a Masters student at Musicians Institute and work there as a faculty member. I have given hundreds of live performances, but, I really enjoy working in a studio environment and have played on dozens of recording projects. I also enjoy working on music equipment and finding new sounds - I studied guitar building directly after high school and have built instruments from scratch. I am fortunate to have surpassed 10,000 hours of practice on guitar and devote a lot of time to learning more about recording arts.
I began teaching in college and quickly moved into a small lesson studio. During this time, I taught around 200 students as in my studio, we rotated. Since I moved to Los Angeles, I have been teaching for All Play music as well as at Musicians Institute. I have created a series of very well received lesson videos on social media that have garnered over 1,000,000 views. Every student is different, therefore, I tailor our lessons to fit their needs and desires. I believe that hard work and having a great time can be simultanoues.
For small children, I like to teach from the same book I first learned how to play guitar from. But, for older students, I like to base our lessons on their interests. Generally, I will ask a student if there is a song they really like. If so, we will learn the song by ear, or by sheet music for those interested, and break down all of its pieces. Then, once we understand the inner workings of the music, we will apply it to different situations. I also promote improvisation and composition and fold this into the lesson. I believe one of the biggest benefits of having a music teacher is playing music with them, so we will devote a lot of our time to playing music together in one way or another.
I am a kind yet honest person. Therefore, I won't shy away from criticism, but will always do so in a respectful and proactive manner. Every student is different and I believe it is my job to adapt to fit their needs. It is wonderful to see students excited and prideful of seeing results from hard work. First and foremost, it is my job to provide a positive atmosphere a student feels comfortable in. I hold my students to standards of accountability, work ethic and honesty and hope that they hold themselves to the same.
