I am a passionate instructor who absolutely loves music! I have played the violin since I was a young girl, and understand the importance of music in a child's life. I am in my last semester at Brigham Young University where I will graduate with a Bachelor's in Viola Performance. I have had the opportunity to travel all over the world with music, performing in festivals in Belgium, Luxembourg, Canada, and more. I especially love chamber music and had the opportunity to work with BYU's Honors String Quartet.
I have consistently been teaching students in my home for the past 7 years and never want to stop! My goal with each student is to teach the fundamentals of the violin/viola, and especially how to practice in an organized way. I want my students to gain their own love for the instrument and be inspired daily by music. My students are required to practice daily and perform often. I want each student to walk away from lessons feeling like a better, more educated, and excited person. I love working with younger kids and teaching the basics of the violin/viola. There is nothing better than seeing a student master something for the first time!
I use the Suzuki Method throughout my teaching process. I think it is a great bases for teaching the techniques necessary to master the violin/viola. I also use various scale books (according to level) to teach note reading, sight reading, and basic music theory. Each student in my studio is required to work on a technique (scales, etc.) and one to two solo pieces. Along with this, majority of my students perform with orchestras in schools or the community. We often work on their orchestra repertoire each lesson.
Each person is different. Because of this, I always make sure each student is going at their own pace. At the beginning of the year, I sit down with each student and we set goals for our playing. I want students to feel motivated and inspired always, and to practice because they love it- not because they feel forced. I have competitions within the studios to motivate practicing, and talk about what we can do at home to make the violin/viola more fun. I absolutely love helping each student find what they are looking for through the violin/viola.
