I consider myself a passionate and motivated instructor who enjoys working with students and sharing my love for music. I have a degree in music performance and education and I have been playing music since a very young age. I have several songs copyrighted and continue to enjoy playing and writing music. I believe music is a very important element and part of life and has the ability to enrich ones life more than one can imagine. I also feel that music is always better when shared which is why I continue to teach and try to inspire my students and hopefully instill a sense of passion for music in all my students and hope that they in turn pass on the legacy of music. I believe without music life would B Flat.
My teaching history dates back to when I was just a freshmen at college. I began teaching beginners and playing in various bands and began enjoying and sharing music with others. When I graduated I began to teach intermediate and some advanced students and realized that music would forever be a part of my life. I have performed with various bands and ensembles throughout the years and throughout Florida. I have worked with a variety of students from children to adults. I have studied classical and contemporary music and feel very comfortable with improvisation as well.
I try to cater my lessons to the individual needs and desire of my students and try to asses the level of knowledge and provide feedback and advice as to how to best move forward. I usually work with Mel Bay or Hal Leonard books and try to provide them with a general broad base forms of musical exercises designed to assist the student gain proper technique and become proficient in the his or her instrument of choice. I also try to get my students to become comfortable and confidant so as to be able to play well with other musicians.
I believe I have a laid back and flexible style of teaching. I try to understand each of my students musical needs and desires and clearly understand and respect that no two students are exactly alike. I try to share my passion for music and instill the same in all my students. I try to create a balance between theory and actual technique that will create an overall well balanced musician. I also use hands on methods and on occasions play with or alongside my students depending on their level of musical capabilities.
