Bachelor Degree: University of Nebraska-Lincoln
William H. Thompson Scholarship
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I'm about to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Performing all kinds of music has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician. I'd love to share my talent with others! I see my talents a gift that should be shared as much as possible. If I could spend my time teaching a student to grow and love music that would be such an ideal experience for me.
My teaching dates back to my high school years in which I instructed younger students in middle school band as an assistant to the director. I have performed in all kinds of groups including jazz bands, wind ensembles, latin groups, and even choirs. I grew up in Cozad, Nebraska which is a small town, but I was influenced by so many kinds of music given this age of technology. With my versatile background I think I can really guide a student in their growth and development as a musician. Music is a beautiful passion to pursue.
For beginning students I really get to know where the student is at in their learning experience. I try to individualize the learning experience as much as possible, learning about the student's background his or her interests in music. Also, I would track the student's progress carefully taking notes about lessons to better guide them in their musical journey. Above all striving to foster a great curiosity to learn! Learning music is so rewarding. It should also be a fun experience for any student.
I am someone who believes that nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! That's why it is so important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Also, having a great attitude with positive encouragement reflects my style.
