Overview:
I'm a dedicated and passionate vocalist who is looking forward to sharing my love of music and talents with others so that they too may develop a passion for singing. I graduated from Western Connecticut State University with honors and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. I plan to receive a master's degree in opera studies or vocal pedagogy and then continue to study for my doctorate, (DMA.) I was also born with a special gift known as absolute (perfect) pitch.
EXPERIENCE
Over the last four years, I have tutored many music students in sight singing, keyboarding, and French. I have prrviously assisted children in the Fairfield County Children's Choir with sight reading notes, rehearsing rhythms, and helping with diction and pronunciation.
METHODS USED
For younger students, especially children, I will begin their first vocal lesson by standing next to them and showing them how to stand with correct posture. Then I will move on to breathing by having the child place their hand on their diaphragm. I will show them that it is the muscle right above their stomach. In the best way possible, I will explain to them that in order to breathe correctly, they must be able to feel their stomach move in and out instead of their chest. For all of my students, I personally cannot assign them songs to learn until I hear the style and tone of their individual voices. During their first or second lesson, I will ask them to sing a few bars of a song they are comfortable singing. Together, we will decide on the pieces they would enjoy singing.
LESSON STYLE
I will prepare lesson plans primarily on my students' skill levels. I will assign small assignments for them to work on over the course of each week after their lessons. I will stress the importance of practice and how critical it is to their growth as a musician. Finally, I want my students to have fun and realize the joy of music!!
