Overview:
I am a very passionate guitarist and instructor who loves sharing and inspiring others with the love of music. From 2008 to 2012, I studied Classical guitar at the Russian Music Academy in El Monte. In 2017, I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance. I have studied classical and jazz guitar, as well as songwriting and arranging. I also have a long experience in guitar performance, performing in solo and group concerts. As a teacher, I am very versatile in music genres and can teach many different styles. With me as a teacher, you can expect to learn the core basics of guitar and how to create your own music.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching from October 2016 to the present. Coming into college as a Music Performance major, I never imagined the amount of joy that would come along with teaching. My experience with teaching has always been it's ability to it connect and inspire people. Learning music has always helped my students to express their interests with others. With lessons, I usually recommend a regular practice schedule with guitar fundamentals because fundamentals should come as second nature in learning music. As well as learning a consistent amount of repertoire, I also encourage my students to be creative with their work. Music should always come from the heart and express real human emotion.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I usually like to start off teaching basic guitar fundamentals. We would go over guitar methods such as fingerstyle exercises, left hand exercises, chords, and basic sight-reading. After the student has considerably grasped basic fundamentals, I would start introducing repertoire appropriate for their reading level. For more advanced students, we would work on more advanced musical concepts such as phrasing, articulation, and tone control. I also try to keep my lessons relaxed and comfortable. It's so important that each student progress at a comfortable pace. Music should be a fun activity.
LESSON STYLE
My role as a teacher is to supply my students with the right skill set to pursue their own creativity. With music, there is no set solution to any given problem. That is why I enjoy being very flexible with my students. Any piece of repertoire can be played and interpreted in a variety of ways. I strive for originality and encourage my students to do the same with any piece of music they play. Music is a gateway into our inner feelings, and I believe that inspiring creativity is the most important step in musical growth.
