2004 - University of St. Thomas School of Music Presidential Scholarship
Overview:
I love to teach and share everything that I have learned with my students. I graduated from University of St. Thomas in Houston with a BA in Music in 2008. I have been playing the piano since I was eight years old, and I have participated in many piano recitals and competitions throughout my years, and I have been teaching the piano for more than 14 years. I have on occasion played for my church as well. My home studio contains my own baby grand piano which I have had for years. The studio is in a place where it's relatively quiet with minimal distractions.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching the piano right after I got out of college. From that day, the number of students began to slowly grow. I am always willing to go to the students' home for lessons as most students prefer that method, but I also have my home studio to teach from as well. Seeing the encouraged looks of my students always gives me joy to see that they are learning and even enjoying the music. Though I mainly teach Classical music, I never discourage my students from seeking other avenues as well, even if it's modern music such as rock or even video game music! I always encourage my students to enter into recitals so they may check their progress. I am always looking for more students!
METHODS USED
My methods vary with the age of the student. For beginners who are children, I usually start with Alfred's Basic Piano Library, which I try to go through most of that series. During that time, the children will occasionally play anything they wish to play that is interesting or fun to them. When they are finished, we will go into many different solo pieces for them to play to further advance their knowledge and performance of music. For the adults, they will use a different series of books that is appropriate for them, along with any solo pieces they would like to play.
LESSON STYLE
With each and every one of my students, I try to help them appreciate the music they are playing. I always try to emphasize practicing everyday, paying attention to the rhythm, and sight reading the music. I also make sure to tailor to the student's needs. A comfortable setting is established for them so that they may not feel stressed out and that I am there to always help them out. I will always do my best to always encourage them to do better while acknowledging everything they have done up to that point.
