2011- UW Music Scholarship
I’m passionate about inspiring new beginners and novice cellists to their full potential. Having 10+ years of cello experience, I specialize in prepping students for auditions, playing in orchestras and individual performance pieces. I graduated from University of Washington in 2014, with degrees in Speech and Hearing Science and music, I pursued my musical journey during my graduate studies in Chamber Music Lab, University Orchestra and individual performances for weddings and small events. As an adult practicing in the healthcare space I have a clinical doctorate in Audiology, after hours you will often see me in community orchestras I have been in the St. Louis Civic Orchestra, Diablo Symphony and Cambrian to name a few :)
My teaching was primarily during my time as a music student in college, I have since taken part of various community orchestras and teach as a side hobby. My primary job is in the medical field. I have taught middle and high school students and lead multiple sectionals in my previous college years as a cellist. I graduated with a doctorate in Audiology, pursuing a career involving the sense of hearing. Whether you want to learn about how we hear and how that relates to music or just the basics for cello for kiddos, I am the one to span those different boundaries
For beginners I like to meet the student where they are. I enjoy using unconventional training methods like using analogies and items to build the basic foundations. I also believe in methods aside from a rigid Suzuki book but playing into a student's interests. There are a number of ways to teach & learn. My favorite students are those open to learning from the basics and utilizing unique exercises to build a strong foundation for success. Repertoire is a vital part of music but more importantly is the fundamentals!
My teaching style is open book. What I find motivates a student is what they wish to learn and music they want to play. The basic foundation is one of the key elements to better musicality but also the study of listening and understanding music drives what we consider the originality of each musician. I believe that as much as physical practice drives the growth of a student, I want to build motivation for the student to pursue greater things with music and allow it to translate to other parts of his/her life as it has for myself.
