1. 2012-2014 - Jackie McLean Scholarship to The Hartt School of Music
2. 2014-2016 - Full Scholarship to William Paterson University
Overview:
I have been teaching music for about fifteen years. Currently I teach music at a charter school where I am the lead music teacher. I currently teach high school students piano performance as well as AP music. I studied at the renowned Hartt School of Music, Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz in Hartford CT where I graduated with my bachelors in music with honors. Some of my mentors have included Steve Davis, Nat Reeves, Abraham Burton, Eric McPherson, Rene McLean and Javon Jackson. While in Hartford I taught saxophone and piano at the Artist Collective for two years. Currently I am finishing my Master's degree at William Paterson University where I received a 100% scholarship. I enjoy motivating my students to find their voice in music.
EXPERIENCE
Teaching music has been a part of my life for ten years. I have been teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, and piano to all ages in many different parst of the country including Utah, New England, New Jersey, and New York. I encourage my students to practice developing good habits but also having fun. I love all types of music and try to make what ever music/band the student is passionate about a part of the lesson, making the lesson educational and enjoyable. I encourage my students to compose their own music, helping them have stronger self confidnece as well as find their own voice.
METHODS USED
For my students, I like to make sure that their experience learning music is fun and enjoyable, but also rewarding. I want to make sure that anyone studying with me is having a fun time, but also learning good habits. It is very important to learn how to warm up properly and also how to correctly play your instrument. I try to find out what the student is interested in and what motivates them and guide my lesson according to the level of the student.
Currently I teach at a public school where students (a class of 25) are learning the piano. Every 6 weeks students have a recital. The method works. Imagine what you’ll get with private lessons.
LESSON STYLE
As a teacher, it is very rewarding to see my student progress and see their love for music deepen. I like to help students develop at their own speed while guiding them in the right path. I like to help my students find their own voice and creativity in music. It is very important for me to inspire my students by learning who they are and what they are interested in. I encourage my students to bring in things they are interested in and need help with. Becasue all students are different I try to make my lessons specific to their needs and goals.
