I'm a teacher at heart and I always have something new and exciting to give to others in the form of information or skill. I've been teaching professionally for over 10 years and I love every single minute of it. I have worked in two Texas Independent School Districts and I have worked with a wide variety of age groups and subjects, not just music. I occasionally play live shows on the weekends with my band and I can play four other instruments besides the guitar. I'm constantly coming up with new concepts and ideas to try and I love showing them to my students. I love creativity so I do everything I can do bring that out of my students.
EXPERIENCE
I have over 10 years of teaching experience that isn't limited to just music. I have taught a wide array of subjects in two Texas Indepenent School Districts. I am a self-taught guitarist; however, I do have a Degree in the discipline of Music. I have students as young as five years old and I teach many adults as well. I have been playing the guitar for 14years, but I've been playing music in general for 19. I've always been more of a hands-on, self-taught kind of person, but then I saw some flaws in that method and decided to learn Theory, or the "language of music" as I like to call it, and I've learned so much more and it really opened the doors for me as a musician. I always encourage my students to think creatively and to keep an open mind.
METHODS USED
My methods vary from student to student. I realize that some people learn in different ways and I do my best to accommodate my students. I'm a very pattern oriented person so if you prefer diagrams and visuals, I can definitely help you learn. I also have many different tricks and techniques to make something so complex seem much more simple. If need be, I will make personal Word documents for my students that I can email to them so my students have material study and work on even outside of the lesson. My goal in the long run is to teach my students not only how to play an instrument but give them the skills and mindset to pick up another instrument and master it on their own.
LESSON STYLE
I love to challenge and test my students so don't be surprised if I take you out of your comfort zone for a minute or two. This is done to see how far you've come along with my teaching so far. I understand that different people learn at different paces and I will always do everything I can to get you to master your instrument at any speed. I always do my best to introduce students to new ideas so that they are more likely to think creatively. I also like to make my students laugh if I can. I want my lessons to be informative but fun. Remember, learning doesn't have to be a chore.
