Hello to all music enthusiasts, I love music performance and instruction. It has been my lifelong passion. I have been a professional performing musician since the age of 13. I have been a professional music instructor since the age of 24. Music has allowed me to travel all over the world. I have accomplished lifetime goals of performing in stadiums to thousands of people. I love sharing the gift of music through private lessons and or group classes. I had a wonderful private teacher myself growing up and it is because of him that I have been able to take my musical journey so far. I have taught in school systems and at music stores. It is a joy for me to see students progress. No matter what your interests level of goals, I am here to be of service. Thank you. John
Hello once again, I did mention a few things in my "introduction " letter. Well.... I started tap dance lessons at age 4. I started organ lessons at age 7. I joined school band playing drums at age 9. I started my private lessons with my mentor at age 11. I was in hight school concert, marching, and jazz bands. I won awards in jazz band. I started playing professionally at age 13 with adult band members. At 19 I started playing the circuit in Rock bands. I played in wedding bands. I played regional gigs. I started teaching private lessons. I work full time musician at 28 and landed national touring gig for 2 years. Then I landed an International touring gig for 6 years! I played for 100,000 once, 45,000, once, 25-30,000 many times, 18-25,000 hundreds of times. I playing on live telecast concerts. I've headlined Vegas many times. You get the picture. Lots of love and passion putting it out to share.
Hello to all yet again, Well, in this section I will share my teaching methods. I grew up taking formal lessons from adults who did not "candy coat" anything. Times were different and there was no "political correctness" or "everyone got a trophy just for participating " ideology. Things were strict. You had to "make the grade". For me it was what was needed to be able to reach where I did as explained in the 2 previous sections. So....I do not treat anyone any different. I believe everyone has the same opportunity to "rise to the occasion " and reach their goals. Of course I adjust my curriculum, the amount and the pace of the material to match where a student is at and where they want to go. No one has to take this to the level I did. Enjoying music at any level is fine with me as long as they give it their best. I have taught many students of all ages and abilities. I care for them all. I do stress the importance of a solid foundation. Having the understanding of what you are doing is important and frees a student to grow beyond the lessons for themselves. Actual work to take home is a must as well to progress. I do not give "jam sessions ", or "show me" lessons. It is something to learn and develop. I love sharing my love of music and passing on the wisdom I have gained throughout the years. John
Well hello yet again. Ok, well I guess I covered most of this in the previous sections. Anyway.... In the previous section I covered most of what I can say in this one. These are real lessons, not jam sessions or monkey see monkey do. There are assignments given to be worked on before the next lesson. Everyone develops at a different pace and that is adjusting for in the lessons. Development of a strong foundation of technique is important. There are no shortcuts. With all of that said, music and the lessons should be fun! I do try to make it so. Please read all the other "sections " thank you. John
John has an exceptional personality, a LOT of patience. He is very good at understanding what the student is wanting to do and then teaching proper technique always with an eye on the student's goals. He is dependable and knowledgeable. This was a perfect match for what I was looking for.
John is so patient and a great drum instructor! He has a lot of passion for teaching and helping my son improve!
John is organized, flexible, professional, encouraging and patient with his students. It’s been a pleasure taking lessons from him.
John has been amazing with my seven year old autistic son. He has taught him not only drum set but how to read music which is an awesome skill. He has a lot of patience and is super positive. We highly recommend John!
John is a fantastic instructor, he has knowledge and experience, he is kind and very dedicated to me, he motivates me every step. He is the best!
I needed help with singing, especially in preparing two particular songs that I was planning on singing in Ireland. John helped me greatly with this, where the main problem for me was finding the exact pitch for each note. He is patient and at the same time exacting, which is what I needed. It ended up that the preparation we worked on worked, and the songs enjoyed a positive reception. I was hoping for something more in the way of a foundation for singing any song, instead of just the two songs. That wasn't there, and since I'm basically a beginner it would have helped. I did get a hold of Singing 101, which filled in the gap, and discovered singing is mostly breath control.
John is a very good teacher and has a lot of patience with our son and we appreciate that very much. We think John is an excellent music teacher and would highly recommend him.
John was great with my 7 year old son. John’s personality and structured method helped my son learn good technique, read music, perform solos, and have fun. I would recommend John for anyone serious about learning drums the right way.
