Overview:
Music has been a huge passion and drive in my life since the age of 6. I first started singing then shorlty began playing trumpet. Music has given me so many amazing opportunities world wide and has allowed me to meet some incredible people I would have never met any other way. I've played in Japan, Australia, Berlin, and New Zealand to name a few. Music is an endless journey and feel strongly it can take you places you've never been before!
For the past 4 years I've been working steadily in NYC playing anything from club date gigs (weddings, galas, corporate events) to recording sessions, off-Broadway Musicals and various freelance gigs.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching trumpet in my Senior year of high school. As I contiued into college I learned a great deal from some of the best trumpet players in the world. I had the great pleasure of studying under Allen Vizzutti while completing my degree from the Univeristy of Washington. Gaining knowledge from great players only inspired me more to pass it onto ALL my students. Playing trumpet and making music have to be fun and enjoyable. I strive to focus on each students needs individualy and ulitmately find the best methods and materials to encourage and motivate my students to become not only great musicians, but great trumpet players.
METHODS USED
I use a wide variety of old and new methods for trumpet. The fundementals are without a doubt very important and crucial to playing trumpet. As we work on these techniques I will be assiging trumpet solo repertoire which will apply many if not all of the fundemental trumpet techinques. Incorporating other material a student would like to learn outside of regular trumpet repretoire is important to me was well. Music comes in a wide variety of styles and incorporating any of these styles help any stupid become a well rounded musician.
LESSON STYLE
I'm a very energetic and outgoing person and really want all of my students to succeed in every aspect as a musician and trumpet player. It is very important to me I know my students well so I can adapt to their learning style, their needs, their abilities, and their goals. By knowing these crucial aspects of each student I can better adapt my teaching style and give each individual student the best directional techniques to grow, learn, and develop into a great musician!
***Lesson Structure***
Private instruction is a great opportunity for a student to learn the details to playing trumpet and making music. Playing trumpet can be fun and enjoyable. It can also be one of the most physically demanding instruments to play.
The physical aspect of playing can be the most crucial. Learning to play with proper air support, embouchure set, correct finger technique, and posture will not only make playing easier, but will also progress your abilities faster and more efficiently.
My lessons are structured around the proper physical approach to the horn while applying fundamental techniques such as: Lip Flexibility, Technical Fingering, Range, Proper Equipment, and most importantly, Breath Control and Proper Abdominal Support.
The other part of my lessons involve learning the mental focus needed to make practicing efficient and beneficial, coping with performance anxiety, and establishing "mental confidence" while performing.
All these aspects take time and practice to acquire, but are very important for a trumpet player in order to make trumpet playing fun, exciting, and rewarding.
