Bachelor Degree: Berklee College Of Music
I naturally fell into playing music after receiving my first guitar at age 10 and have been playing ever since for 14 years & teaching for 6 of the latter years. Beginning by playing classic rock/punk/metal/hardcore & venturing into various sub-genres catered to these styles throughout his teenage years when he started writing & recording his own songs & playing in various bands in the Tri State area. Being completely self taught up until deciding to pursue his studies further moving to Boston, MA to attend Berklee College of Music, his playing evolved into playing more Contemporary/Fusion/Jazz/Latin/Progressive Rock styles in ensembles and privately w/ John Baboian, Jon Finn, Dave Fiuzcynski, Dave Gilmore, Mick Goodrick, Don Lappin, Tim Miller, Norm Zocher.
I've been teaching since I was playing in bands in High School, helping my friends and those who were of interest, find themselves enjoying themselves by learning and playing the music that interests and drives them the most. This can come from learning songs and catalogues of artists in which are strongly admired and desired to play in the style of. I strongly encourage regular practice on playing your scales, triads and arpeggios, as well as exploring those concepts further into personal exercises catered to styles of music the student finds themself most interested in.
I like to start with learning the Pentatonic scale in it's 1st position and show how it can be played in 5 positions based on the components of the scale being built on 5 notes, or intervals. We'll look at the C major/A minor scales on every string to show where all of the natural notes are on the individual strings and then expand upon playing them in modes, and move on to another key to show how these scale patterns are inter related with all 12 keys followed by learning the chord shapes in open and closed positions and how and where to utilize them in songs or in a blues/jazz sensibility.
I'm very passionate about being able to share the love of music and helping people grow on their way to becoming the musician they desire themselves to be and become. Wether you're looking to learn for fun, or try to audition for music education beyond High School, I'm more than happy and keen to pass along all of the tricks and tips I've discovered over my years of playing and learning. We'll cover everything from fretboard knowledge, basic to advanced theory & harmony, soloing approaches in all styles, strategies for learning alternate picking/sweep picking and other advanced techniques, arpeggios and scales, as well as learning your favorite songs and breaking them down to see how their constructed, fingerpicking, note reading and many other topics. lets get shredding!
