Overview:
I'm a dedicated musician with a passion for teaching music and sharing my knowledge with others. I attended the Atlanta Institute of Music and I'm currently seeking a bachelor's degree in jazz guitar from Columbus State University. I have had the honor to perform from Athens Georgia to Atlanta Georgia playing with various other talented musicians and several local bands. Although I love the feeling of a live set there is nothing better in my opinion and teaching and watching others grow their skills and become the best musicians they can be.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching locally in my hometown of Athens Georgia right out of high school. Before I even knew that music was my life's passion I always found myself the guitar in hand. I started teaching full time private lessons 6 years ago and have continued to teach through college. I have found in my experience that through a mix of both classical training and more modern approaches my students can develop their skills and style for efficiently and more productively. I also encourage my students to play with others either in a band, or recitals to help further their abilities as musicians.
METHODS USED
For beginner students new to guitar I like to start off with "Berklee Basic Guitar" - Phase 1: Guitar Technique by William Leavitt. Once my students have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of basic music theory sight reading and position playing we can begin taking the necessary steps to prepare for recitals or other performances. I also encourage my students to practice not only the genres of music that they like to listen to but also other genres that they may be unfamiliar with to gain a sense of comfortability no matter what the future brings.
LESSON STYLE
Is greatly rewarding to see the progress and development of all of my students. It is as important to stay close to what inspired the student in the first place to pick up the instrument, although music theory is an essential aspect of being a musician I always make sure that my students are having fun and enjoying playing everyday. My instructions are built around the fundamentals of Music Theory and how works are composed but I also believe in catering to the style and elements that the student is drawn to and writing my lesson plan to incorporate those needs and develop all skills and talents of the student.
