Hi there! I'm the lead singer and founding member of indie rock band Gregular and I want to teach YOU how to play music! I write and record my own music, so playing all of the instruments of the rock rhythm-section is a must. If you want to train your voice, your drum kit chops, bass grooves, piano shredding, guitar face-melting, or even practice your song writing and music composition, then we're going to have a great time! Additionally, if you're looking to get into music production, I have the skills to teach you what you need to know to get started recording your own music!
I've been singing, playing drums, and piano for the past twelve years. I've received formal training in voice and drums, so if you want really solid technique and discipline, these are my two strongest areas to deliver. I learned how to play guitar and bass because whenever my bandmates were out of town, I couldn't record anything, so now I can be my own band! Because I couldn't afford lessons for five instruments, I had to settle with teaching myself. I've played both concerts and recitals, composed original musicals, and recorded other artists' music. If you're looking for someone who can be every member of a rock band AND record it all, then I think we're in business.
As a member of an indie rock band, I understand the importance of being able to play songs on your instrument as quickly as possible! With this in mind, my lesson plan focuses primarily on breaking down songs that we want to learn how to play into their fundamental parts; the chords, the grooves, the fills, what-have-you, until we can put it all together. If there's a song that's particularly difficult and requires sound fundamentals, then we'll pound out those skills until we can get the results we want. Most importantly, I want to train my students to have a GOOD EAR! If you can hear it, you can play it.
My teaching style is very simple. With the fundamentals in place, it's possible to learn any song you want to. If there's a song that goes beyond a student's fundamentals, then that's what we'll learn next. As my music teachers told me, if you listen to a record and you find something on it that you don't know how to play, go back and learn how to do it! Listening and learning is essential to playing the music that you want to be able to play as quickly as possible. The theory and technique will follow when your body and ears understand what to do. Because as we all know, theory is based on practice!
