ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music

Overview:

I'm a dedicated and passionate teacher that loves hard work and sharing the love of music. I studied music performance at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. Since my studies, I've performed all over the world in a variety of styles and genres. I've had the opportunity to have worked with titans of music, such as Omar Hakim, Mino Cinelu, and many others. I've performed at numerous festivals, both international and abroad such as the Zadymka Jazz Festival in Poland, Dinos Festival in Hungary, X Jazz Festival in Germany, and the Blue Note in China.

EXPERIENCE

I have 5 years of ensemble teaching, and 7 years of private instruction. I've developed a method of instruction that covers all bases, and spans several styles that focuses on consistent and fun practice. Practice is something to be enjoyed rather than a chore, and every step and improvement is exciting. For upright bass, I love to work on bow pressure and intonation and jazz idioms. Electric bass instruction focuses on a wide variety of styles and genres. Both basses are taught with a goal oriented approach, be it for a college audition, recital, or more.

METHODS USED

Upright students, I work with the simandl method, mostly getting comfortable holding the instrument and working with the bow. Once comfortable, we expand into scales and shifting, eventually working into solo material and jazz concepts such as walking bass and soloing For electric bass my teaching method is more diverse as there are many different styles of music that the instrument is used in. I like to touch on them all as I believe learning something new is never a bad thing. For both instruments, I use a goal oriented approach that prepares the student for the future that focuses on technique, sound, and expression.

LESSON STYLE

Passionate practice is my mantra. It's important that each student works at their own pace with both short term and long term goals. My goal is to inspire every student to enjoy the journey that is music. I love to work together with students to individually tailor my instruction to suite their wants and needs, while also broadening their musical palate and showing them opportunities, approaches, and perspectives. My goal is provide students a path to success accompanied by low pressure and effortless practice.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
