Overview:
I have been teaching music for almost 20 years, and playing for 26 years., and I am excited for the opportunity to share my knowledge with you, so that you can have fun reaching your goals! Whether you're a hobbyist just trying out an instrument, or a serious student preparing for an audition or music school, I will show you the way to reaching those goals! I customize lessons for each individual student based on their needs and interests! I can help you reach your goals, and also help you figure out your goals if you are just trying this out and wondering what your niche is!
EXPERIENCE
Once upon a time, one of my co-workers asked me to show her how to play some songs on the guitar. I can't remember exactly what those songs were, but I think it was Led Zeppelin, or something like that. Having never taught a lesson in my life up until that point, I reluctantly agreed, and later that week, she arrived at my front door with guitar in hand. As the lesson went on, I had a couple of "Aha" moments! One of which is "This is SO much fun!" and the other was "I could see myself doing this for the rest of my life!" That one lesson has turned into a career in which I've earned a Masters Degree on a full scholarship, played with Grammy winners, and so many other wonderful experiences.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, we will go over the basics of single-note playing, as well as basic chords. We will also cover basic rhythms, so they can build up to playing their favorite songs. There are also many ways to be creative with music, and we may also play some musical games to make practicing more fun. If students are interested in composing or song-writing, I can assist with that as well. For intermediate and advanced students, what I teach them depends on their personal goals, and I will evaluate and customize our lessons based on a brief evaluation.
LESSON STYLE
My lessons are relaxed, and very informative. I want students to look forward to lessons every week! I want to know what inspires each student and cultivate their strengths and allow them to progress at a pace that is comfortable for them. I approach my lessons with a positive attitude, and I like to approach each student with an open mind, and to create an environment that lets them know it's OK to make mistakes and to struggle. Even making mistakes and struggling can be fun with the right outlook!
