Overview:
I began playing piano at age 5 and played for church since age 12. I graduated with two piano performance degrees with one of the greatest pianist of our generation,Valery Kuleshov. Throughout my classical music career, I have particpated in several well-known music festivals, masterclasses, and performance venues including The Classics on Disney Boardwalk and a performance with the Imperial Symphony. I began teaching during my undergraduate degree and have taught privately for the past 10 years.
EXPERIENCE
In my studio, I have found that the greatest results from consistent thoughtful practice. My experience of performance and practice have helped me develop a method that has proven successful in my studio.I was taught in the Russian piano school and have found that the incorporation method of performance, technique, theory, and music history give a well-balanced foundation for creative development of musicians. I have worked with students from age 3-65 and all levels from beginner to advanced and found this method works the best.
METHODS USED
The method I use in my studio is individually tailored to each student and the student's goal. I have found the the encouragement of each student's goals the best way to inspire them to learn. Seeing my students discover new and exciting realizations is the most rewarding part of teaching piano, and if I can impart some of the understanding I have to help them grow creatively then I have succeeded. I teach the areas that are missing in each student to make sure that all the fundamentals are learned so that the student can choose how to apply them to their art. If I can cause a student to leave the lesson inspired to go to the practice room and make new discoveries then I count it as a great success.
LESSON STYLE
In my studio, I listen to the work that the student prepares for the lesson and assist with technical, performance, and musical aspects. We also listen to new music and discuss various aspects of the development of music. For younger students, I have computer based learn to help reinforce fundamentals, and also games that can help keep the learning an exciting and fun-filled experience. For my adults with goals in classical music, I offer in-class study of theory, repertoire, and history. I believe that performance helps students and inspires them to reach their goals so I do give studio recitals at least four times a year as well as encourage my students to play competitions, and other performance venues. It is my desire to help each student gain not only a understanding of music but a true passion for the art form.
